Raleigh and Hurley score first-career goals

SHELTON, Conn. – The Post University men's ice hockey team was defeated by Westfield State 6-2 on Thursday night at the SportsCenter of Connecticut in Shelton. Freshmen Jake Raleigh (Raleigh, N.C.) and Kieran Hurley (Long Beach, N.Y.) each scored their first-career goal in the loss.

"I thought we played very well through the first two periods. In the third, we made three mental mistakes that each led to goals and we were unable to recover," said head coach Pete Whitney.

After falling behind 1-0 after one, the Eagles rallied and tied the score 7:53 into the second period. A scramble behind the net led to freshman Anthony Giacomin (Drexel Hill, Pa.) finding junior Brian Hurley (Long Beach, N.Y.) on the blue line. The shot by Hurley caromed in off Raleigh for the power-play goal. Less than two minutes later the Owls put one through to pull in front 2-1.

Kieran Hurley put back a rebound off a shot by sophomore Matt Moreschi (Malden, Mass.) late in the period to tie the game 2-2 at the second intermission.

Westfield State scored four times in the third period to put the game away.

Shots were 43-32 in favor of the Owls. Sophomore Lucas Smith (Calgary, Alberta) led the Eagles with six shots. Freshman Brandon Brown (Hanahan, S.C.) made 37 saves on the night.

Post is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 14 on the road at Saint Michael's. Puck drops in Burlington, Vt. at 7:05 p.m.
