WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated Goldey-Beacom 3-2 at the Drubner Center on Saturday night to improve to 10-9 overall and 8-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
Post scored the first six points of the match and controlled play throughout most of the opening set. The Lightning slowly began to chip away at the deficit and score four straight point to take a 20-18 lead. The Eagles were unable to recover, dropping the first set 25-22.
The second set began the same as the first with the Eagles jumping in front 8-3 early. Junior
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.) had three kills during the run. Goldey-Beacom would tie the set 8-8, but a 9-2 run by the Eagles capped with a kill by junior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made the score 17-10. Post led by as many as nine on its way to a 25-17 victory.
Goldey-Beacom led 5-1 to start the third set and never trailed on its way to a 25-22 victory.
The Eagles got serious with the match on the line and rolled over the Lightning 25-12 and 15-7 in the final two sets to capture the match, their 20
th consecutive CACC home victory.
Hunziker finished with 19 kills, 16 digs, three aces and five blocks. Seger added nine kills and 13 digs. Junior
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) had 46 assists, two aces, three blocks, and 16 digs. Senior
Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) added 20 digs. Freshmen
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) and
Kyla Knight (Seabrook, Texas) each had nine kills.
Post visits Dominican on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
