PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University women's volleyball team won its fifth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match 3-1 at Holy Family on Tuesday night. Freshman
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) tied her season and career best with 11 kills in the victory.
Post took the first two sets, each by a score of 25-23. The Eagles led 9-5 early in the first set and extended the advantage to 17-12 after an error by the Tigers. With Post in front 19-14, Holy Family staged an 8-2 run to take its first lead of the match. Levatino had two kills and a block down the stretch as the Eagles scored four of the last five point to take the set.
The teams traded runs in the second as Post led 10-5 early before finding itself down 15-12. An error by the Eagles led to a 21-18 Post deficit and a timeout. Out of the break, junior
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.) and sophomore
Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) each had an ace and a kill to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the match.
Post looked like it was going to sweep the match as it jumped in front 8-3 in the third, but a 10-1 run gave the Tigers a 13-9 lead. The Eagles pulled back in front 24-22 late before Holy Family scored the final four points to force another set.
The Eagles exploded to a 10-1 lead in the fourth set and never looked back. Holy Family would not trail by less than eight the rest of the way as Post took the set 25-13.
Hunziker had 10 kills and 10 digs while Veale added 10 kills and 13 digs. Senior
Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) had 16 digs. Sophomore
Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) recorded seven blocks.
Junior
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) led the team with 20 digs. She also added 36 assists to surpass assistant coach
Taylor Perry for second on the Eagles' career list with 3,132. Courtney McGinnis ('04) is first all-time at 4,542 assists.
Post continues its CACC schedule on Friday night at Felician. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
