Schatz OT Goal Gives Post Women’s Hockey Historic First Win

Eagles win first game in program history

HERSHEY, Pa. – Sophomore Julia Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) scored in the final minute of overtime to the Post University women's ice hockey team its first win in program history on Saturday afternoon 4-3 over Lebanon Valley at Hersheypark Arena in Hershey, Pa.
 
Schatz won a faceoff in the final minute of the game and after a shot by freshman Kayleigh Miller (Braselton, Ga.) was saved, sophomore Kendall Fitzgerald (Kamloops, British Columbia) controlled the rebound and hit freshman Ann Margaret DiSciscio (Litchfield, N.H.) who found Schatz for the winner.
 
Freshman Paige Dundas (La Broquerie, Manitoba) got the scoring started for Post 1:24 into the game off an assist from sophomore Sierra Alarid (Cheyenne, Wyo.). Lebanon Valley knotted the game 1-1 late in the period and it went ahead with a score 36 seconds into second and held the lead into the intermission.
 
Disciscio tied the score 2-2 early in the third period off a pass from Fitzgerald. She had a goal and two assists on the day. Midway through the period Alarid netted a power play goal giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead, but the Dutchmen put one through of their own late to send the game into overtime period.
 
The Eagles controlled the extra period and allowed just one shot on goal before Schatz's winner. Post outshot Lebanon Valley 57-22 on the day, led by Fitzgerald, Disciscio, and Alarid with eight each.
 
Schatz won a game-hi 20 face offs and the Eagles held a 44-33 advantage in the category. Freshman goaltender Ashlynn Neurauter (Kamloops, British Columbia) made 19 stops to earn the victory in goal.
 
Post returns to action on Friday night in a road contest against Sacred Heart at the SportsCenter of Connecticut in Shelton.
