Waterbury, Conn. – Senior Anna Powell (Sunshine Coast, Austraila) and the Post University women's soccer team saved their best scoring game of the season for last, beating the Bloomfield Bears, 6-2 in the final Central Atlantic Collegiate game of the season on Senior Day.
Powell scored her second and third goals of the season as the Eagles clinched the seventh seed in the upcoming CACC tournament. The Eagles finished the regular season 6-11 overall and 6-6 in the CACC.
Powell scored her first goal of the game in the 15th minute as Powell booted a shot from 25 yards out off of an assist from senior Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Senior Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) would add her team-high eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 27th minute to make it a 2-0 game. Freshman Fenna Marse (Hilversum, Netherlands) would add her sixth goal of the season on a shot from the top of the box in the 36th minute giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead heading into the half.
With the Eagles up 4-1 partway through the second half, freshman Sabrina Adamo (Hicksville, N.Y.) got in on the scoring action, beating a defender and putting the ball past goalkeeper Ashley Ramirez for her first goal of the season.
Powell would put in her second goal of the game in the 68th minute off a rebound on a shot from sophomore Fitore Kllobocishta (Watertown, Conn.).
Freshmen Imelda Lazaro (Norwalk, Conn.) and Hannah Richards (Huddersfield, England) and junior Cailah Baranowski (Naugatuck, Conn.) combined for six saves in net. Maarse led all players in shots with four.
Up next for the Eagles is the first round of the CACC tournament on October 31 where they will play either Georgian Court, Holy Family or Wilmington, depending on how the final day of the season plays out.
