WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team grabbed a huge home victory on Wednesday night 3-0 over Caldwell. The Eagles are now 13-11 overall and 11-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play and tied with the Cougars for first place in the North Division.
An 8-0 run by the Eagles capped by a block and kill from sophomore
Ann Marie Nelson (Draper, Utah) gave Post a 15-8 lead in the first set. The Eagles extended their advantage out to as many as 10 points on their way to a 25-17 victory.
Caldwell took a 15-12 lead in the second set, but a 7-1 run put the Eagles back in control at 18-15. Freshman
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) assisted on three straight blocks during the spurt. The Cougars closed the gap to one point at 22-21 to force a timeout by Post. Junior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had two of her team high 12 kills down the stretch to give the Eagles a 25-22 win.
After trading points to begin the third set, Post used a 9-3 spurt to pull in front 11-8. The Eagles continued to roll and back-to-back errors by Caldwell extended the Post lead out to 18-12. Ahead 24-17, the Cougars climbed back into the set with four straight points, but a kill by Nelson gave Post a 25-21 victory and the match.
Sophomore
Shannon Veale (Toms River, N.J.) had seven kills and three block assists. Senior
Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) led the Eagles with 15 digs. Senior
Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had a team-best four service aces. Junior
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.), Nelson, and Levatino each added four block assists.
Post returns to the court on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Bloomfield. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
