WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team was defeated by Bloomfield 2-0 at LaMoy Field on Wednesday afternoon in its regular season finale. The Eagles will be the sixth seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) as the tournament begins on Monday.
The Bears struck early in the contest as Nicholas Calabia found Regsan Watkins from about 25 yards out for a goal in the sixth minute. Post's best opportunity of the first half came off a corner kick in the 15
th minute as a header by freshman
Alvaro Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) nearly went through. Although they were down on the scoreboard, the Eagles outshot Bloomfield 5-3 in the first.
Watkins added the second goal of the game in the 75
th minute on a penalty kick. A flurry of shots by the Eagles, including on target attempts by junior Andreas Time (Bryne, Norway) and senior
Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.) nearly cut the deficit in half on Post's next possession.
Post held a 10-8 advantage in shots on the afternoon. Senior
Giovanni Riello (Sao Paulo, Brazil) made three save for the Eagles.
The Eagles will play on the road in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Monday, Oct. 30. If Bloomfield defeats Caldwell on Friday, Post will visit in the Bears, otherwise the Eagles will head to Wilmington.
