WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Wilmington 3-2 at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) recorded a career-best 15 kills in the win.
The Eagles stormed out to a 13-3 lead in the opening set behind three early kills from junior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and two aces and two kills from junior
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.). Wilmington chipped away at the deficit and a point by Brittany Ford tied the set 20-20. Post scored five of the last eight points and a kill senior
Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) gave the Eagles a 25-23 victory.
Wilmington never trailed as it took the second set 25-21, using a 10-4 run out of the gate to take an early lead. Down six, three straight kills by Post made the score 17-14 and forced a Wildcats' timeout. The Eagles were unable to get any closer but made it interesting by scoring five straight after falling behind 24-16.
Levatino landed a kill to give Post a 16-10 lead in the third set, their largest of the frame. Wilmington stormed back to pull in front 23-22. Seger and Hunziker followed with kills to give Post a set point opportunity. The teams traded points from there and the Eagles led 26-25, but the Wildcats were able to win the final three point for a 28-26 win.
The Eagles rolled to a 25-18 victory in the fourth set to tie the match 2-2. Post led by as many as eight points at 24-15 after a late ace by Kallmann.
Set five began just like the first as Post was in control early at 8-3. After the teams switched sides, Wilmington scored five straight to tie the score 8-8. Post pulled in front 11-8 and the Wildcats would never get closer as the Eagles took set 15-12 to clinch the match.
Hunziker led Post with 21 kills to go with three aces and 21 digs. Seger added 13 kills and 16 digs. Senior
Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) had a career-best 28 digs. Junior
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) put up 58 assists and 15 digs. Freshman
Suzy Boulay (Kingston, N.Y.) added 15 digs as Post had a season-best 106 as a team.
The Eagles return home on Wednesday against CACC North-leading Caldwell. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
