NYACK, N.Y. – The Post University women's volleyball team lost its second-straight five-set match on Tuesday night 3-2 at Nyack. The Eagles are now just one game ahead of the Warriors in the standings with an overall record of 11-11 and 9-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
The Eagles led the opening set 13-12 after a service error by Nyack, but the Warriors answered with a 8-1 run to pull in front 20-14. Kills by juniors
Madison Hunziker (Sacramento, Calif.) and
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) helped bring the Eagles back within three points. Nyack took the set 25-18.
Post battled back to win the second set 26-24. Hunziker was lights out in the set, landing nine of her 10 attacks for kills. The Eagles led 12-8, but Nyack chipped away and tied the score 16-16. Two late errors by the Warriors put Post ahead 23-20. Nyack scored the next four to get to set point before the Eagles were able to answer back with three of their own punctuated by a kill from freshman
Ashley Levatino (Holtsville, N.Y.) to tie the match.
Trailing 22-19 in the third set, Post scored three straight by way of an ace and two kills from Hunziker to tie the score. Nyack scored the final three points to grab a 25-22 win.
Post forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-23 win in the forth. The teams traded early runs as Nyack led 7-3 until the Eagles scored five in a row to pull ahead 8-7. Post fell behind by four later in the set, but used another 5-0 spurt to jump in front 18-17. The Eagles trailed once more before scoring the final two points to earn the victory.
Nyack used a 10-2 run in the fifth to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 12-5 lead as it took the final set 15-10.
Hunziker recorded a career-best 26 kills on the night to go with 13 digs. Levatino added a season-high 13 kills. Junior
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Root put up 51 assists and 18 digs. Senior
Sarah Ryder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) had 17 digs.
Post returns home on Saturday against Wilmington at 2 p.m.
