Moreschi and Weitzel Score First Collegiate Goals as Post Falls to Lebanon Valley 6-3

Teams combine for 74 penalty minutes

SHELTON, Conn. – In the second game between the teams in as many nights the Post University men's ice hockey team was defeated by Lebanon Valley 6-3 at the SportsCenter of Connecticut on a snowy Saturday afternoon.

Post struck first just 2:47 into the opening period as freshman Matt Moreschi (Malden, Mass.) knocked the puck in off a scramble in front of the net. Sophomores Christopher Harris (Barnstable, Mass.) and Garrett Weitzel (Mansfield, Texas) assisted on the goal.

The Eagles 1-0 lead lasted until midway through the opening period when Nick Skerlick scored his first of three goals on the day. Lebanon Valley scored twice more and led 3-1 after one.

Sophomore goaltender Joseph Grout (Plainfield, N.H.) kept the game close for Post in the second period with a few highlight reel saves. He finished with 49 stops on the day. Senior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at the 8:40 mark with his third goal of the year.

The Dutchmen held a 4-2 lead after two periods and scored two power play goals in the third to extend their advantage to 6-2. Weitzel received a long pass from freshman Mike Jessman (Falmouth, Mass.) and scored from the blue line for his first collegiate goal as time expired.

Post returns to the ice on Friday, Jan. 13 at Wentworth. Puck drops in Boston at 7 p.m.
