Four Eagles in Double Figures as Men's Basketball Defeats Holy Family 77-63

Mareno post second straight double-double with 12 points, 12 boards

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team defeated Holy Family 77-63 at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles move into second place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division with an 8-5 conference and 9-11 overall record.

Junior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) nailed four three-pointers and finished with a team-high 15 points. Junior Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded his second consecutive double-double with 12 points, all in the second half, and 12 rebounds. Classmate Joseph Lockwood (London, England) nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

Holy Family hit two of its first three shots and led 5-3 early, but a layup by junior Naasir Williams (Harlem, N.Y.) sparked a 16-4 Post run and the Eagles never trailed again. Senior Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill.) scored five of his 14 points during the run.

The Tigers cut the deficit to four points but Post continued to shoot well from the floor and led 30-20 with 3:52 left in the first. Desrosiers hit his third from distance with just over a minute left to give the Eagles their largest lead of the first at 40-34.

Post led by double-digits most of the second half. A dunk putback on a fast break by Amos as part of an 11-0 run by the Eagles erupted the Drubner Center and put the home team in front by 15. Post was ahead by as many as 20 points in the second.

The Eagles controlled the glass and held a 50-35 advantage on the boards. Post scored 24 points in the paint and 18 second-chance points in the victory.

Post returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Felician. Tip-off in Rutherford, N.J. is set for 8 p.m.
