Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 game to the Dominican Chargers on Wednesday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt at LaMoy Field.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 3-4 on the season, and 3-2 in the CACC. Dominican is 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the CACC.
The Eagles had many opportunities in the Dominican zone in the first half, but came up a little unlucky, as a shot by senior
Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) hit the crossbar in the 21
st minute, followed by a shot off the post from junior
Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) in the 27
th minute.
Post held Dominican to zero shots in the first half.
Post came out the same way in the second half, getting the ball downfield offensively, but were unable to put one through.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, in one of the few chances Dominican had to score, Post was called for a foul inside the box. Lauren Drake scored on the penalty kick in the 53
rd minute, giving the Chargers the lead.
Post, again, came up unlucky, hitting the post on another shot from Yanez in the 60
th minute.
Sophomore
Cailah Baranowski (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished with two saves on the day for the Eagles. Post allowed just three shots all game and outshot the Chargers, 13-3.
"Today, we learned that you have to put teams away when you have the opportunity," Coach
Matt Micros said. "If you let them hang around, anything can happen. That's the beauty and frustrating part of the game."
Up next for the Eagles is Wilmington in a CACC game at noon on Sunday at LaMoy Field.
