Waterbury, Conn. – Freshman
Fitore Kllobocishta (Watertown, Conn.) scored her fourth goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Post University women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-1 game to Wilmington in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in LaMoy Field.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the CACC.
Both teams had opportunities early on in the game, including Post, who had a shot from junior
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) go off the crossbar in the 11
th minute.
The teams looked like they would be heading into the break in a scoreless tie, however, Wilmington scored back-to-back goals in the final eight minutes of the first half, as Carin Essex-Arline scored in the 37
th minute on a header off of a corner from Rebecca Dolhansky. It was her second goal of the season.
Dolhansy would then score a goal of her own four minutes later – her first - on an assist from Teigha Ward.
After being down 2-0 at the break, the Eagles came out of the gate firing as Kllobocishta scored the lone Eagles goal in the 48
th minute as Wilmington goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams came 40 yards out of the net to play the ball. Kllobocishta dribbled by her and put it in the back of the net from 20 yards out to make it a 2-1 game.
Laura van Stevenick of Wilmington would score in the 58
th minute as she headed a ball on a headed pass from Essex-Arline on a corner to make it a 3-1 game.
Post had a chance in the 63
rd minute, but a breakaway opportunity from senior
Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) was stopped on a save from Williams.
Sophomore
Cailah Baranowski (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished the game with five saves, including a diving save early on in the game to keep the game scoreless.
Despite the loss, coach
Matt Micros was very pleased with the performance of his young team. "We were pleased with how we played and are excited about the rest of the season and going forward. How far we go will be determined by how quickly we develop. Very encouraging day for a young team. The score line didn't reflect how we played."
Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Bloomfield on October 5 at 7 p.m.
