Eagles Drop First Two Matches of the Season

Post falls to NYIT and AIC at Long Island Invitational


OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Post University volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the season on Friday afternoon at the Long Island Invitational. The Eagles fell in a five-set thriller to NYIT 3-2 to open the day and 3-1 against American International their second match.

In their first match of the season the Eagles battled back to take a 2-1 lead after dropping the first set against NYIT. Post took the second set 25-23 and then utilized a huge run in the third set to take the advantage. The Eagles were able to pull away after scoring seven consecutive points in the middle of the set to take their slim lead up to eight. The third set was won by Post in decisive fashion 25-14.

NYIT tied the match with a 25-21 victory in set four. In the fifth each team was standing toe-to-toe until the Bears ripped off three straight points giving them a distinct 14-10 lead before closing out the match and defeating the Eagles 15-11.

The Eagles were led by senior Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) with a match high 21 kills, sophomore Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) with 56 assists. Seniors Morgan and Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) who had 21 and 20 digs, respectively.

The second match of the day proved to be no easier as Post fell in four sets (20-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23) to American International. Once again, German led the attack for the Eagles recording another match high 16 kills, while Morgan Griffin had 13 kills of her own. On the defensive side of the ball, German and Hailey Griffin led the team with 12 digs each.

Post will have an opportunity to rebound with two more matches tomorrow against LeMoyne and Molloy. First match begins at 12 p.m.
