PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Behind two second half goals, the Post University men's soccer team opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 2-0 win at Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles outshot the Griffins 29-9 on the day, their most shots since the 2010 season.
"We played really well today. The conditions weren't great with the heat, but I am proud of the way we battled. Their keeper was unbelievable and the score could've been much different had he not made some incredible saves," said head coach
Ted Haley.
Post controlled possession all day but the Griffins kept the Eagles off the scoreboard in the first half. In the 64
th minute, Post finally broke through as freshman
Gabriel Aguilar (Stamford, Conn.) served the ball in to sophomore
Andre Riello (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who headed to home for his first-career goal.
The Eagles continued to test Chestnut Hill keeper James Jackson, who was strong all day with six saves. Great passing by Post led to the second goal. Junior
David Ortiz Correa (Envigado, Colombia) found Riello who touched it over to junior
Kenu Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) as Walker finished with his left foot on an empty net.
"It's great to get a victory to start conference play and give us some more confidence heading into a tough match against LIU next week," added Haley.
Post visits No. 9 LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon as it continues an eight-game road trip to start the year. Kickoff in Brookville, N.Y. is set for 1 p.m.
