Strong Pitching Not Enough As Eagles Get Swept By Concordia

Esposito Strikes Out 11 In Game Two

Bronxville, N.Y. – The Post University baseball team was swept in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Concordia, 3-0 and 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, junior starting pitcher Matthew D'Ariano (Yonkers, N.Y.) struck out eight in seven innings for the Eagles in the tough luck loss.

Concordia scored all three runs in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Brian Bilello, followed by a two-run single from German Dilone.

The Eagles threatened in the top of the seventh after a single from Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.) and a double from freshman Andrew Avots (South Brunswick, N.J.) put runners on second and third with two outs. However, freshman Shawn Boston (Brooklyn, N.Y.) popped out and sophomore Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) grounded out to end the threat.

In game two, the Eagles went up 3-0 early on in the second inning after three straight RBI singles from sophomore David Sarmiento (Miami, Fla.), junior Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) and Boston.

After the Clippers scored a run in both the second and third to cut the Post lead to 3-2, an error from Concordia second baseman Vincent Capone-Froio off the bat of House gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead.

However, after the Eagles (6-20, 1-6 CACC) walked three straight batters in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, the Clippers (7-15, 4-2 CACC) got a two-run single from Epple to tie the game at 4-4 before Joseph Davide's sacrifice fly scored Girgio Palmiero to give the Clippers the lead for good at 5-4.

Post would go down in order over the last two innings.

Sophomore starting pitcher Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) put together his second double digit strike out performance of the season, as he struck out 11 in six innings while giving up three earned runs – one unearned – on four hits and four walks.

Up next for the Eagles is an out-of-conference road game at Southern New Hampshire on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
