WILMINGTON, Del. – The Post University women's lacrosse team swept Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Wilmington on the road Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season. Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) tossed her 10
th shutout of the season in a 2-0 game one win. Post won game two 5-4.
The Eagles finish at 25-21 overall, their most wins since 2009. In conference, Post tied its highest win total with an 18-8 record, good for a fifth place finish.
Game One – Post 2, Wilmington 0
Junior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) was the only Eagle to reach base over the first three innings as she drew a walk to start the game and doubled with two outs in the third. Wilmington did not fare much better as it managed just two early hits.
Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) doubled in a liner past the left fielder with one out in the fourth. Two batters later freshman
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) hit an RBI single down the line in left to put the Eagles in front 1-0.
Post added its final run in the sixth inning as junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) smashed her eighth home run of the year.
Esque allowed four hits and struck out four as she improved to 19-7.
Game Two – Post 5, Wilmington 4
Post scored in each of the first three innings of game two. Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) doubled to center in the first to bring home a run. Lennox put the Eagles in front 2-0 with an RBI single to left field in the second. After a pitching change, junior
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) walked on four pitches to add another run.
After a one-out double by Wilson, junior
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) singled down the line as Post led 4-0 after three innings.
The Wildcats cut the deficit in half in the fourth with a single by Lexi Baughman that scored two. Cammarano gave the Eagles some insurance and a 5-2 lead in the fifth with her second RBI single of the game.
Danielle Bradley drove in two in the fifth to make it a one-run game. Freshman
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) shut Wilmington down the rest of the way to complete the sweep.
Denis threw a complete game and struck out three batters. Wilson was 3-for-4 in the game and scored two runs.
The next game for Post will be in the CACC Tournament which begins on Thursday, April 28.
