LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Chestnut Hill 12-5 Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are 6-7 on the season with just one game remaining.
Post outshot the Griffins 13-4 in the first quarter, but could not sneak one past the goalkeeper. Chestnut Hill scored midway through the period and led 1-0 after one.
Freshman Matthew Mazza (West Seneca, N.Y.) put the Eagles on the board with his first of two goals on the day with a second quarter goal. Mazza picked up a ground ball after a shot from sophomore Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) hit the post and cut the Post deficit to 2-1.
The Griffins took a 4-1 lead in the second before Nichols Jr. scored off a pass from junior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) to make the score 4-2 at halftime.
Hylan and Mazza each had goals in the third quarter and sophomore Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) added a score in the fourth.
Shots were fairly even for both teams, but the Griffins held a slim 47-46 advantage. The Eagles picked up 23 ground balls, led by freshman Matthew Palmieri (Waldwick, N.J.) with six. Palmieri also had a team-high two caused turnovers.
Post will close out the season on Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire. Face off is set for 7 p.m.
