Post Splits With Wilmington

Picone Drives In Two In Game One

Wilmington, De. - The Post University baseball split a doubleheader with Wilmington on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 6-2, and dropping game two, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference clash.

In game one, Post used a five run fifth inning to vault them to victory.

After junior Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) drove in a run in the third on an RBI single, the Eagles used a two-out rally, highlighted by consecutive RBI singles from sophomore Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.), Picone and sophomore Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.). Junior Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) also drove in a run on a single earlier in the inning.

Wilmington scored two runs in the fifth, but were shut down by starting sophomore Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) and classmate Ben Brown (Middlebury, Conn.) the rest of the way. Arnold pitched 8.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

In game two, Wilmington's Julian Kurych drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a double to give the Wildcats the 2-1 victory.

It was a scoreless game until the eighth inning when Wilmington's Nick Macey drove in a run on a groundout.

Post responded with an RBI single by sophomore Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) to score junior Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.) to tie the game.

Junior Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) had the tough luck loss, pitching 8.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks. He struck out four.

Up next for the Eagles is a non-conference home game against SCSU. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
