PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University softball team fell to Holy Family in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Eagles lost game one 7-2 and fell 9-1 in game two.
Post is fifth in the CACC with just two games remaining. The Eagles can finish anywhere from third to fifth heading into the conference tournament next week.
Game One – Holy Family 7, Post 2
Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) hit an RBI double down the left field line with one out in the first inning. Junior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) led the game off with a walk and came in to score. Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) allowed just one hit over the first three innings to keep the Eagles in front 1-0.
Junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) doubled to right field to begin the fourth inning. Classmate
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.), who went 3-for-3 in game one, drove her in with a one-out single to left.
Holy Family smacked a grand slam in the fifth and three-run homer in the sixth to grab the lead for good.
Game Two – Holy Family 9, Post 1, F/6
The Eagles once again grabbed a first-inning lead in game two. After a walk by senior
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.), Kresley reached on a fielder's choice as Iacomini was forced out at second. Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) doubled to left center as Kresley scored from first to put Post ahead 1-0.
Post would load the bases with no outs in the second, but failed to score. Freshman
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) led off with a walk and junior
Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) followed with a single to the pitcher. Cammarano reached on an error before the next three Eagles were sat down in order.
The Eagles were held to just three hits and did not have one after the third inning. Holy Family scored five times in the third. A triple in the fifth put the Tigers in front 6-1. Alyssa Cudeyro hit a three-run homer in the sixth to end the game.
The regular season comes to a close tomorrow afternoon as the Eagles visit Wilmington for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
