WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the year on Thursday afternoon with a 16-0 win over Felician at LaMoy Field. The win is the first in the career of head coach
Kayte Mills and the first shutout in program history.
Eleven different players scored for the Eagles including career-firsts for juniors
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Jessica Ayala (Middletown, N.Y), sophomore
Dominique Woods (Hartford, Conn.) and freshman
Natia Jones (Raleigh, N.C.).
Post built up an 11-0 lead at halftime. Sophomore
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) struck first just over a minute in and scored three times in the half. Seniors
Jasana Levy (Meriden, Conn.) and Jordynn Woltmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had two goals before the break.
The Eagles played the second half with a man advantage and scored five times. Post had season-highs in shots (37), groundballs (35), and draw controls (13).
Junior
Nicole Evans (Cortland, N.Y.) and Deren each picked up seven groundballs. Woods and Lavelle recorded season-highs with four and three caused turnovers, respectively.
Tyra Jones won four draw controls.
Freshman goalkeeper Rachael Lancaster (Plainville, Conn.) stopped the only shot she faced to pick up the victory.
Post will close out its regular season on Saturday afternoon at Wilmington. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
