WILMINGTON, Del. – Sophomore
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) of the Post University women's lacrosse team scored a program-record nine goals as the Eagles fell to Wilmington 18-12 in the final game of the season on Saturday.
After falling behind 10-3, Post scored the final three goals of the first half to cut the deficit to 10-6 at the break. Deren scored the first four times for the Eagles. Senior
Jasana Levy (Meriden, Conn.) found sophomore
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) for an extra-man goal late in the half and Deren added another in the final minute.
Post closed the gap to 11-8 as Deren scored twice early in the second, but it's as close the Eagles would get. Wilmington scored five straight from there to extend its lead to 16-8 with 10:59 left in the game. Deren scored the record-breaking goal with just six seconds remaining.
Senior
Jordyn Woltmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists. Rodriguez picked up a season-high nine ground balls and had three caused turnovers. Junior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) won five draw controls.
Deren's nine goals break the previous single-game record of eight which was done twice previously, most recently by
Miranda Polaski '15 last season in a 21-11 loss to Chestnut Hill.
