SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team tied its win total from a year ago as it defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 15-7 in Sparkill, N.Y. on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles were 6-8 last season and are 6-6 in 2016 with two games remaining.
Six of the Eagles seven shots on goal in the first quarter found the back of the net as Post jumped on the Spartans 6-0 early. Junior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Matthew Mazza (West Seneca, N.Y.) had a goal and assist in the period while sophomore Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) scored twice.
Post continued to extend its lead in the second quarter. Junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) put the Eagles in front 7-0 less than a minute in and Buchas followed quickly with his second score of the game. St. Thomas Aquinas stopped the shutout with 11:38 left until halftime, but Post scored three straight to end the half and grab an 11-1 lead at the break.
Freshman Patrick Egan (Colchester, Conn.) scored twice in the second half and finished with three goals and an assist. Buchas and Mazza also finished with three goals each. Mazza also grabbed four of the Eagles 17 ground balls.
Junior Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) had a goal and two caused turnovers. Classmate Chris Cruz (Wayne, N.J.) won a season-best 14 face offs. Three Eagles' goalkeepers combined to make nine saves.
