Springfield, Ma. – Freshman Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI and the Post University baseball team scored five runs in the third innings as it won its third straight game, 7-5 over American International College on Tuesday afternoon. It was the third straight win for the Eagles.
Munson opened up the scoring early on as he drove home sophomore
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) with a double down the left field line to put the Eagles up, 1-0. Walsh started the rally with a two-out single.
After AIC scored a run to tie the game in the bottom of the first, an error from AIC second baseman Brendan Carter off the bat of sophomore
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Again, AIC would tie the game after Carter would redeem himself on the offensive end, driving in a run in the bottom of the second to make it a 2-2 game.
Six straight batters reached base for Post in the top of the third inning as it scored five runs in the inning to put the game out of reach. Munson singled to drive home Walsh – who tripled - again before a double from senior
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) would drive home junior
Drew Deangelis (Robinsville, N.J.) and freshman
Andrew Avots (South Brunswick, N.J.). Junior
Nick Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) would then get into the action as his single brought home Rodriguez. Wright would put a cap on the rally, driving home Grasso with a single.
Rodriguez finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Walsh and Wright were both 2-for-5.
The Yellow Jackets would add a run in the fourth and two in the sixth, but the Eagles bullpen would allow just one runner over the last three innings.
Sophomore
Mike Calo (Watertown, Conn.) got the win for the Eagles, pitching six innings, giving up five runs – three earned – on two walks and seven hits while striking out one. Classmate
Ben Brown (Middlebury, Conn.) and Munson combined for five strikeouts in three innings of relief.
Up next for the Eagles is a road game at Molloy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
