WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team picked up a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory on Monday as the Eagles blanked Dominican 5-0 in their LaMoy Field finale. Post is 22-18 overall and 15-5 in CACC play heading into the final week of the regular season.
Heading into the bottom of the third, the teams had just one base runner each. Junior
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) beat out an infield single to start the frame. Classmate
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) was hit by a pitch and senior
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) had a base hit to load the bases with one out.
Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) lined a single up the middle as two came home for the Eagles. Iacomini scored on a wild pitch later in the inning as Post led 3-0.
Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) was plunked with two outs in the fifth. Junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with her seventh home run of the year to extend the Eagles' advantage to 5-0.
Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) was dominant once again as she scattered two hits and struck out seven to improve to 17-5. She added to her CACC-leading shutout total with her ninth of the year.
With the victory Post splits the season series with Dominican as the Chargers earned a 5-2 nine-inning victory earlier this year.
The Eagles will play three days in a row to end their season beginning with a doubleheader at Concordia on Wednesday, April 21. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
