LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Post University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Georgian Court on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles are now 10-4 in the CACC and 17-17 overall and have won eight of their last 10 games. Junior
Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) went 5-for-6 on the day and drove in a run.
Game One – Post 3, Georgian Court 0
Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) threw a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters as Post won its eighth consecutive game. Dawson hit a one-out double in the second inning and came home to score on a base hit by junior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.). Two batters later senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Eagles in front 2-0.
Post put two on in both the fourth and fifth innings, but was unable to extend its lead. The Eagles added some insurance in the top of the seventh as sophomore
Amanda Ely (Pittsfield, Mass.) came home on a bunt by junior
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.). Ely pinch ran for freshman
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) who led the inning off with a single.
Dawson went 3-for-4 in the game and had a stolen base. Junior
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) had two hits
Game Two – Georgian Court 3, Post 1
The first three Georgian Court batters reached, two on infield singles, to begin the home half of the first inning. After a strikeout, Angela Lakatos hit a single to left field to drive in two runs for the Lions. Dawson cut the deficit to 2-1 with a sacrifice fly that brought home junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.)
Post looked to tie the game in the third. Sophomore
Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.) singled to right center with one out. Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) was hit by a pitch and Ragazzone drew a walk to load the bases, but all would be stranded as a groundout ended the frame. Georgian Court added a run on two hits in the third. The Eagles put two on in the sixth inning but were unable to close the gap.
McDonald went 4-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Wilson and Dawson each added two hits.
Post returns home on Thursday afternoon against Nyack. First pitch at LaMoy Field is set for 3 p.m.
