WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team extended its win streak to seven games on Sunday with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep over Chestnut Hill. Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) recorded her 16
th-career shutout to break the school record as the Eagles won 1-0 in game one. Post earned a 3-1 victory in the finale.
Esque picked up the win in each game as she tossed 10.1 innings of shutout ball allowing just five hits and striking out 10.
Game One – Post 1, Chestnut Hill 0
Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) crushed a solo shot in the second inning to lift the Eagles in game one. Later in the frame a double by junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) and an error by the Griffins put two Eagles in scoring position, but both were stranded.
Junior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) looked to add to the Post lead in the fifth with a one-out triple over off the wall in right. Briannen Holloway struck out the side for Chestnut Hill to hold the game at 1-0.
Esque scattered three hits and struck out six Griffins.
Game Two – Post 3, Chestnut Hill 1
Chestnut Hill grabbed an early lead in the second game as a two-out single in the first by Sofia Cedrone drove home the first run of the day. Lennox drew a five-pitch walk to begin the home half of the frame. Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) doubled down the line in left to bring across the tying run.
The Griffins put two on with two outs in the fourth. Esque entered the game and Ariel Magee popped up her first pitch to end the threat. Post took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) smacked an RBI single to left field to put the Eagles in front 2-0.
Kresley hit a line drive two-out double to center in the fifth and came home to score the third run on a base hit by Schaffer.
Post looks to continue its winning ways on Tuesday at Concordia. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
