Softball Swept by Mount Olive, Northern State on Final Day in Florida

Ragazzone goes 2-for-3 with an RBI

CLERMONT, Fla. – On its final day in Florida, the Post University softball team was defeated by Mount Olive and Northern State. Junior Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI.

Mount Olive 4, Post 1
Neither team could get anything going offensively over the first three innings. Junior Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) and Ragazzone each reach base for Post. Senior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) held Mount Olive to just one hit and struck out three over the opening frames.

Junior Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) hit a bunt single and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error by the third baseman. Ragazzone drove her in with a base hit to left field to put the Eagles in front 1-0 through four innings.

The Trojans did all their damage with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Five straight hits including three doubles led to four runs. Post was shut down in order in the final two frames. Junior Karoline Prevost (Fall River, Mass.) pitched 1.1 innings of perfect relief.

Northern State 7, Post 0
Northern State hit the Eagles for three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Ragazzone was hit by a pitch and freshman Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) had a base hit to begin the second but both were stranded.

Post loaded the bases with two outs in the third. Junior Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) each hit singles to lead the inning off. Senior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) also reached on a hit by pitch. A groundout ended the Eagles' threat.

The Wolves scored one in the fourth and hit a three-run homer in the fifth to jump ahead 7-0. Post had a chance in the seventh as senior Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) doubled to begin the frame and Cammarano reached on an error. Both advanced a base on a wild pitch but were unable to cross the plate for a run.

Prevost threw another inning of perfect relief in the nightcap.
