Eagles Shutout Pitt-Johnstown 6-0, Fall To Sioux Falls

Denis Earns First-Career Win

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team is now 4-4 on the season after a split on day four of the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Eagles were shutout 6-0 by Sioux Falls in their opener before rallying for a 6-0 victory against Pitt-Johnstown in the nightcap.

Sioux Falls 6, Post 0
Post was held to just three hits against Sioux Falls. The Cougars scored one in the second and three in the third to go up 4-0. The Eagles best chance came in the fourth inning as sophomore Amanda Ely (Pittsfield, Mass.) and senior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) had base hits with one out. Both moved into scoring position after a groundout before a strikeout ended the inning.

Kresley was 2-for-3 in the game as she hit a two-out double to right field in the sixth inning, but was stranded there after an inning-ending popup. Sophomore Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out six in five innings of relief.

Junior Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) singled to left field and later came in to score the first Eagles' run on a base hit by Schaffer. Juniors Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) followed with back-to-back hits as Post led 2-0 after the first.

Sophomore Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.) hit an infield single with one out in the second. Junior Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) smashed a base hit to left field and both runners advanced into scoring position on an error. Owens put Post in front 3-0 with an RBI single. After Kresley drew a walk, Schaffer was hit by a pitch to push across another run.

Freshman Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning to keep the Mountain Cats off the board. She threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball to earn her first-career victory.

Owens recorded her third hit of the day with a bunt single to lead off the fourth. Kresley drove her in with a triple to deep right field and came home on an RBI single by Schaffer.

The Eagles close out their Spring Break trip tomorrow with games against Mount Olive (1 p.m.) and Northern State (3 p.m.)
