OAKDALE, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated at #11 Dowling 14-6 on Tuesday afternoon. The loss snaps the Eagles three-game win streak.
Freshman
Matthew Palmieri (Waldwick, N.J.) forced a turnover with 5:20 left in the first quarter to give the Eagles possession. Seconds later junior
Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) beat the keeper on a shot from the wing to put Post in front 1-0.
Post lost the ensuing faceoff, but senior
Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) created another Dowling turnover. Junior
Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) scored his fifth goal of the season as the Eagles led 2-0.
The lead did not last long as Scott Reece scored twice for the Lions to close out the quarter with the score tied 2-2. Dowling outscored Post 6-0 in the second frame and took an 8-2 advantage into halftime.
The Eagles made the most of an extra-man opportunity early in the third quarter as junior
Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) scored off an assist from classmate
Andrew Mottola (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Dowling added two more goals before junior
Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) rattled the cage for his first of two goals on the day. Post trailed 12-4 through three quarters.
Blackman had a goal and assisted on a score by junior
Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) in the fourth quarter.
Post picked up 23 groundballs, led by Blackman with eight on the day. Senior
Rob Rohan (East Islip, N.Y.) made 13 saves in goal. Palmieri and sophomore
Kevin Keiser (Danbury, Conn.) each caused two turnovers.
The Eagles return home on Saturday against Saint Anselm. Face-off at LaMoy Field is set for 2 p.m.
