Esposito Strikes Out 11 In 6-2 Win Over Nyack

Tous, O'Neill Go 3-for-5

Lake Worth, Fla. - Sophomore Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) struck out 11 in just six innings and Post used a three-run second inning to help catapult its baseball team to a 6-2 win over Nyack on Sunday afternoon. It was the third straight win for the Eagles.

After a scoreless first sophomore David Sarmiento (Miami, Fla.) opened up the scoring in the top of the second with a triple to score junior Dan O'Neill (Saddle Brook, N.J.). Freshman Shawn Boston (Brooklyn, N.Y.)  and sophomore Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) followed with RBI singles to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

It would be more than enough for the Eagles (5-4, 0-0 CACC) as Esposito struck out four straight batters, including the side in the second inning, early on in the game.

The Eagles would get some help from Nyack's defense as a ball hit by Sarmiento was thrown away by third baseman Hayden Allen to allow two runs to score in the fifth to make it a 5-0 lead for the Eagles.

Nyack's lone scoring came in the sixth inning on a sac fly from Ryan Kahl and a passed ball on a strikeout.

Sophomore Rafael Tous (Flemington, N.J.)  would add some insurance in the top of the eighth on an RBI double to score sophomore Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.).

Freshman Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) came in relief for the three-inning save, striking out five.

Saturday

On Saturday, the Eagles swept Stonehill in a pair of pitchers' duels, 1-0 and 2-1 in Palm Beach, Fla.

In game one, junior Matthew D'Ariano (Yonkers, N.Y.) struck out six in a complete game win. Tous was the offensive hero in the game, as his RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning plated Wright for the lone run of the game.

Sophomore Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) dominated for the Eagles on the mound in game two, pitching a complete game with 11 strikeouts and giving up just one earned run.

The Eagles scored in the second inning on a fielder's choice from O'Neill that drove in sophomore Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Sarmiento made it a 2-0 game with a solo home run. The home run would prove big as Stonehill scored in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Brian Campbell.

Up next for the Eagles is an out of conference game against LIU Post on March 8 in Palm Beach Fl. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
