CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) went 4-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBI as the Post University softball team split on day one of the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Eagles defeated Saint Anselm 6-3 to open the day and fell to #14 West Virginia Wesleyan 9-2.
Post 6, Saint Anselm 3Saint Anselm struck first with a run in the second inning as Leiandra Wilson led off with a single and later came in to score.
In the bottom of the frame, freshman
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) and junior
Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.) each singled to put runners at the corners with two outs. Junior
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) drove in Wilson to tie the score. Sophomore
Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Kresley drew a walk to put the Eagles in front 2-1.
Junior
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) and Lennox each reached on infield singles in the fourth inning. With two outs, Kresley doubled to right center driving in two runs. Owens led off the sixth with a single and Kresley once again drove her in, this time with a bomb to deep left field which put Post ahead 6-1. The Hawks added two runs in the seventh.
Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) earned the win as she pitched a complete game and struck out six.
#14 West Virginia Wesleyan 9, Post 2Kresley continued to mash in the second game with a two-out solo shot in the first inning to give Post a 1-0 lead. Two errors by the Eagles led to a run by the Bobcats in the home half of the frame. Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) hit a double to lead off the second but was stranded there as the next three batters were sat down in order.
Freshman
Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) nearly pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the second but West Virginia Wesleyan added three more runs and jumped ahead 4-1. Kresley hit her third home run of the day to start the fourth inning.
The Eagles put runners on in the fifth and sixth innings but were unable to score.
Post returns to action at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning against Assumption. The Eagles will play LIU Post at 11 a.m.
