Manchester, N.H. - The Post University baseball team hit three homers, but lost in heartbreaking fashion to Saint Anselm, 5-4 on Thursday afternoon as the Hawks hit a walk-off single for the win.
After leaving runners five runners on base over the first three innings, freshman Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) belted a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to left-center. Sophomore
Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) scored on the homer after he singled to lead off the inning.
Starting freshman
Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) retired nine of the first ten batters before Saint Anselm got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with RBI doubles from Ken Morrisino and Nick Bragole.
Post took the lead again the top of the fifth when senior
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) homered with two outs.
Saint Anselm tacked on two runs in the sixth on an RBI single from John Marculitis with two outs and the bases loaded. Another run scored - this one unearned - on an error during the play.
Zane Byrne relived Clayton Welch in the top of the eighth for the Hawks and retired the first two batters before sophomore
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) homered to tie the game, 4-4.
However, with two outs in the bototm of the ninth, Paul Trabucco singled to score Sean Doherty to give Saint Anselm the win.
Kovalewich pitched seven innings, giving up four runs - three earned - on nine hits and two walks while striking out two. Trabucco got the win in relief for the Hawks.
Up next for the Eagles is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Nyack on April 2. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
