Men’s Lacrosse Falls At #16 LIU Post 19-5

Nichols Jr. scores twice in defeat

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by #16 LIU Post 19-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Bethpage Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. Sophomore Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) scored twice in the loss.

Down 3-0 midway through the first quarter, freshman Matthew Palmieri (Waldwick, N.J.) forced a turnover to give the Eagles possession. Junior Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.) put Post on the board with his 10th goal of the season.

The Pioneers built a 5-1 lead with 4:11 left in the opening frame. Junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) won the ensuing faceoff and quickly scored to for the Eagles. Post would not score again in the first half and trailed 14-2 at the half.

McDermott found Nichols Jr. with 5:30 left in the third quarter for his first goal of the game. Junior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) added his team-leading 21st goal of the year midway through the fourth. Nichols Jr. added another score in the final minutes.

LIU Post held a 49-31 advantage in shots. Buchas had eight shots for the Eagles. Palmieri led Post with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Eagles return to LaMoy Field on Saturday, April 2 against #14 Molloy. Face off is set for 3 p.m.
