Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) pitched seven solid innings in game two as the Post University split a doubleheader with Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Wednesday. Bloomfield won the first game, 9-3. Post won game two, 6-1.
After the Bears scored a run in the bottom of the second, the Eagles got even in the top half of the third as sophomore
Luke Leonardi (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a single to begin the inning.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the fourth inning as junior
Dan O'Neill (Saddle Brook, N.J.) – who walked - scored on an error from Bloomfield second baseman Anthony Lantigua off the bat of sophomore
Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec).
It wasn't just the offense that came alive in game two. Enderle retired 12 of the next 13 batters he faced after giving up a run in the second inning.
Walsh made Post's lead more comfortable in the sixth inning as he led off the inning with a homer.
The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the seventh thanks to some poor defense from the Bears. Leonardi singled to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a throwing error by left fielder Harold Hester, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored after a ball hit by sophomore
David Sarmiento (Miami, Fla.) was misplayed by Luis Hidalgo. Junior
Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) would then drive in sophomore
Brendon Emigholz (West Islip, N.Y.) to give the Eagles their second run of the inning.
Emigholz drove in the last run for the Eagles on the day on a single that scored Robillard in the eighth.
Enderle finished the day throwing seven innings, giving up one unearned run on five hits and
a walk while striking out three. He is 1-1 on the season. Freshman Mike Munson (Plainville, Conn.) pitched two innings of relief, striking out three and walking three.
In game one, Bloomfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held the Eagles to three hits in a 9-3 win. The Bears scored their first run in the third inning and three more in the fourth, thanks to a two-run double by Hester.
The Eagles (6-16, 1-3, CACC) attempted a rally in the fifth, scoring two runs. The first came on a passed ball that scored O'Neill. Sarmiento's double play scored Robillard to make it a 4-2 game.
The comeback attempt didn't last long as the Bears (4-14, 1-4 CACC) scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the eighth.
Post's final run came on an RBI ground out by sophomore
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) in the sixth inning to score Walsh.
Sophomore
Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) got the loss for Post, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up six runs – five earned – on four hits and three walks. He also struck out four.
Ben Brown struck out five in 3.2 innings of relief.
Steven Acosta earned the win for Bloomfield.
