Eagles Fall In Extra Innings To SCSU, 4-3

Deangelis Drives In Two Runs

New Haven, Conn.  – Junior Drew Deangelis was 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Post University baseball team, but Southern Connecticut State University scored a run in the bottom of the tenth inning to defeat the Eagles, 4-3.

Going into the top of the third down 1-0, sophomore David Sarmiento (Miami, Fla.) walked and junior Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs. After the Owls retired the next two batters, Deangelis singled up the middle to score both runners to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

The Owls would tie the game up on an error in the bottom of the third inning.

Post (5-15) took the lead again in the top of the fifth as Sarmiento scored when Picone was caught stealing second base.

Again, the Owls answered on an RBI walk. With two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore Mike Calo (Watertown, Conn.) came in relief of starting freshman Brett Pisaneschi (East Quogue, N.Y.) to get Finn McNeil to line out.

The Eagles mounted a rally in the ninth inning as Sarmiento singled and sophomore Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) put runners on second and third with two outs. Senior Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) flew out to end the rally.

The Owls loaded the bases with no outs in the tenth inning before Ryan Kaplan's fielder's choice scored Jake Paul to give Southern Connecticut the win.

Pisaneschi gave up three runs – one earned – on four hits and five walks while striking out six in 4.2 innings. Calo received the loss giving up one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Quantique White got the win in relief for the Owls, pitching five innings, giving up five hits and striking out four.

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road doubleheader at Bloomfield. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
