WATERBURY, Conn. – Senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) hit two home runs to propel the Post University softball team to split against Adelphi on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles took game one 8-4 before falling 9-1 in the game two. Kresley now has 19 home runs in her career, tied for the most in school history with Megan Pappas '07.
Game One – Post 8, Adelphi 4The Eagles offense got going early in the first game. Senior
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) singled to left to start things off. After a flyout, junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) was hit by a pitch. Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) cleared the bases a three-run homer to center. Freshman
Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) followed with her first collegiate blast as the Eagles led 4-0 after one.
Kresley crushed a two-run bomb to deep center with two outs in the second. Adelphi answered with three in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 6-3.
An error and two passed balls put runners on second and third for the Panthers with two outs in the fourth inning. Senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) pitched out of the jam to keep the Eagles in front.
Iacomini hit a double over the head of the Panthers' right fielder in the fifth. Ragazzone added some insurance with an RBI single to left as Post extended its lead to 7-3. She also drove in the Eagles' final run with a double in the sixth.
Esque struck out seven and picked up her CACC-leading eighth win of the season.
Game Two – Adelphi 9, Post 1 (5 innings)The offense for Post stalled in game two as the Eagles were held to just one hit and four baserunners. Adelphi's Brenna Martini launched a two-run homer in first inning to get the scoring started. Kresley crushed a solo shot down the left field line in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Junior Kate Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) and sophomore
Korie McDonald (Middleboro, Mass.) each drew one-out walks in the second but both were stranded. Martini tacked on another run for the Panthers with her second homer of the game in the fourth.
Adelphi put the game away with a six-run fifth inning.
Post visits Caldwell on Tuesday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
