BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Post University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Bloomfield on Wednesday afternoon. Senior
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) drove all three runs in a 3-0 victory in the opener. The Eagles were defeated in game two 5-1.
Game One - Post 3, Bloomfield 0Post was held hitless over the first three innings until senior
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) and junior
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) each singled with one out. Both were stranded after a strikeout and flyout ended the frame.
Junior
Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) hit a lead-off single in the fourth and advanced to third on sacrifice bunt. Classmate Kristin Owens (Exton, Pa.) followed with a walk and a stolen base as two Eagles were in scoring position with just one out. Iacomini put Post ahead with 2-0 with a single to centerfield.
The two runs were all that Post needed as senior
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) tossed a five-hit shutout and struck out seven. She allowed just one hit after the third inning to pick up her seventh win of the year.
Iacomini hit a two-out RBI single in the seventh to extend the Eagles' lead.
Game Two – Bloomfield 5, Post 1A leadoff double by Bloomfield in the bottom of the second began a three-run inning. With two out, four straight Bears reached base on two hits, a walk, and an error to climb ahead 3-0.
Ragazzone reached on an error in the fourth. Sophomore
Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) followed with a double to left field. Wilson reached an ground ball to the Bears' shortstop who forced Scaffer out at third, Ragazzone came home on the play to cut the lead to 3-1.
Bloomfield hit a lead-off homer to begin the sixth and added another run in the inning for a 5-1 lead. Freshman
Zoe Bunch (Pennsville, N.J.) and Owens reached second and third in the final frame, but the Eagles were unable to mount a comeback.
Post returns home tomorrow afternoon against #20 Southern New Hampshire. First pitch at LaMoy is set for 2 p.m.
