Buchas Scores Three Goals In 12-8 Loss to Saint Michael’s

Post 4-4 on the season

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated 12-8 by Northeast-10 foe Saint Michael's on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Junior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) scored three goals in the loss.

The Eagles started the first quarter off strong. Junior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) scored the first of the day just over a minute into the game. After an answer by the Purple Knights, sophomore Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) and Buchas scored back-to-back to put Post in front 3-1.

Saint Michael's Brian Loughlin had a goal and two assists as the visitors came back to take a 4-3 lead with 3:40 left in the first. During an Eagles' timeout, the Purple Knights received a three-minute illegal equipment penalty. Senior Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) hit Buchas for a goal in the closing seconds to tie the score 4-4 after one.

Post began the second quarter with an extra man and made the most of the opportunity as Buchas scored his third goal to grab a 5-4 advantage. The teams continued to trade leads throughout the second quarter. Hylan scored for the Eagles, but Saint Michael's answered with two goals to jump ahead 7-6 at halftime.

Nichols Jr. beat the keeper for the second time midway through the third quarter to knot the game 7-7, but the Purple Knights took a one-goal lead into the final quarter.

Junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) scored late for Post, but not before Saint Michael's had pulled ahead 12-8.

Post held a 31-29 advantage in ground balls, led by Buchas and freshman Matthew Palmieri (Waldwick, N.J.) with six each. Palmieri also had three caused turnovers. Junior Rob Rohan (East Islip, N.Y.) made 11 saves.
