Eighth-Inning Run Dooms Eagles In 4-3 Loss At #4 Franklin Pierce

Walsh 2-for-4 with HR and 2 RBI

RINDGE, N.H. – A throwing error with two outs in the eighth inning allowed the winning run to score as the Post University baseball team fell 4-3 at #4/5 Franklin Pierce on Wednesday. Sophomore Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and two RBI.

Sophomore Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) drew a walk and advanced to second on a sac bunt to start the third inning for the Eagles. Classmate David Sarmiento (Miami, Fla.) tripled on a fly ball down the line that skipped past the Ravens' diving right fielder as Robillard came home to put Post in front 1-0.

Two batters later Walsh smashed a double off the right field wall to bring home Sarmiento. Franklin Pierce grabbed a run back in the bottom of the third on a two-out single up the middle to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Eagles were sat down in order in the fourth and fifth. With one out in the sixth, Walsh crushed a home run to center field as Post extended the advantage to 3-1. A two-run double by Chris Stanford tied the game for Franklin Pierce in the sixth.

Freshman Michael Munson (Plainville, Conn.) and junior Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) began the seventh with singles and advanced to second and third with one out. The Eagles were unable to push across the go-ahead run. Post also threatened in the eighth as it loaded the bases with one out, but were once again stranded.

After a walk in the eighth inning, Justin Brock doubled to centerfield, but an errant throw allowed him to advance to third and the go-ahead run to come across for the Ravens to make the score 4-3. Brock was thrown out at the plate for the final out. Post went down in order in the ninth.

Sophomore Enzo Esposito (Hamilton, N.J.) threw 5.1 innings, struck out six, and allowed three runs (two earned). Classmate Ben Brown (Middlebury, Conn.) allowed just two baserunners in 2.2 innings of relief work.

The Eagles return to the field on Tuesday, March 29 at Southern Connecticut. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
