Ragazzone HR Helps Eagles To Split At AIC

Junior Hits 3-run bomb for second day in a row

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University softball team split a pair of non-conference games on Thursday afternoon against American International. The Eagles won the opener 6-1 but fell 9-5 in the second game.

Game One: Post 6, American International 1
Junior Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) slammed her second home run in as many days to give Post a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Junior Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) drew a walk to start the frame. Freshman Marissa Wilson (Holbrook, N.Y.) singled to right field to put runners at the corners for Ragazzone's bomb.

Wilson doubled to left center with two outs in the third inning. Ragazzone came up with another clutch hit has she singled down the line to put the Eagles in front 4-0. Senior Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) drove in the final two runs for Post with a double to center in the fourth.

The Eagles had chances to extend their advantage even more as they loaded the bases in the fifth. Alexa DiLeo homered for AIC in the fifth for the Yellow Jackets' only run.

Eight of the nine Eagles' batters registered at least one hit and Post had 12 hits as a team. Wilson had three hits and two runs scored.

Senior Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) allowed just one earned run and struck out two to pick up her fifth victory of the season.

Game Two: American International 9, Post 5
The Eagles bats were quiet to start the second game of the day. Post was sat down in order in the first three innings. The Yellow Jackets pushed a run across in the bottom of the third on a two-out single.

Kresley singled to center in the fourth for the Eagles first base runner of the day, but she was stranded there after a strikeout. The first five batters for AIC reached base to start the fourth inning as the Yellow Jackets scored six runs and led 7-0.

Just as it looked like AIC was going to run away with the game, the Eagles cut the deficit to 7-5 with a five-run fifth. Sophomore Emily Schaffer (Hazlet, N.J.) singled to start the rally. After a walk by junior Marissa Cammarano (Bedford, Mass.), sophomore Sara Selimovski (Watertown, Conn.) drove in the first run with an RBI single to center.

Two batters later, senior Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) brought home two with a single down the line. Wilson singled up the middle to bring in the fifth run.
A triple by the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the frame tacked on two more runs to make the score 9-5. Hits by Lennox and Iacomini put two on with one out in the seventh but both were stranded.

Post returns home on Saturday afternoon against Goldey-Beacom. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
