SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University women's lacrosse team lost a non-conference road game 23-5 at American International on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomores
Toni Deren (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) combined for all five Eagles' goals.
The Yellow Jackets won the opening draw and quickly scored the first goal of the game. Post earned a free-position attempt on its first possession of the day. Deren tied the score 1-1with her third goal of the season.
American International took control of the game from there as it extended a 14-1 lead. Deren stopped the run with another free-position goal with just over six minutes remaining until halftime. The Eagles trailed 16-2 at the break.
Junior
Tyra Jones (Rochester, N.Y.) forced a turnover on the Yellow Jackets' first possession of the second half. She finished with a team-high three caused turnovers. Rodriguez made the most of the mistake with her team-leading sixth goal of the year. Post won the ensuing draw and Deren scored for to cut the deficit to 16-4. Rodriguez added a late goal for the Eagles.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday afternoon at Southern Connecticut. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
