Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Post University baseball team scored four runs in the third inning, but it wasn't enough as it dropped a 7-4 non-conference game to the Pace Setters.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 5-10 on the season.
Down 2-0 heading in the third inning, the Eagles started their rally thanks to some inconsistent pitching on the mound from Pace. With a runner on second, starter Michael Amato walked senior
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) before hitting junior
Rupert House (Spokane, Wash.) with a pitch. He was replaced by Ryan Mihalkovitz, who walked sophomore
Alex Wright (Butler, N.J.) to score classmate
Don Walsh (Hamilton, N.J.) to cut the deficit to 2-1. With freshman
Shawn Boston (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at bat, Mihalkovitz threw two consecutive wild pitches to allow Rodriguez and House to score. Boston would then drive in Wright with an RBI single to center giving the Eagles the 4-2 lead
The lead wouldn't last long as the Setters scored three runs in the bottom of the third. After the Setters loaded the bases to begin the inning, Nick LoBello hit into a double play to, at the time, kill a big rally. However, two outs the Eagles committed an error on a ball off of the bat of Cory Capaldi allowing two runs to score to tie the game at 4-4. Mayo then capped the rally with an RBI single to right field to give Pace a 5-4 lead.
Pace added on two more runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Alec Petrone and LoBello.
Rodriguez finished the day 1-for-3 with two walks. As a team, the Eagles walked eight times.
Starting freshman
Tyler Kovalewich (Colonia, N.J.) (1-2) received the loss for the Eagles, pitching six innings, giving up five runs – two earned – on eight hits and two walks. He struck out six. Mihalkovitz was credited with the win for the Setters.
