Men’s Lacrosse Drops Season-Opener At Pace, 15-9

Mazza Scores Three Goals in Eagles Debut

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team fell at #17 Pace 15-9 in its season-opener on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Matthew Mazza (West Seneca, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead the Eagles.

Pace struck first with a goal 1:23 into the first quarter. A turnover by the Setters helped lead to a man-up opportunity for the Eagles. Junior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.) tied the score with a goal and under a minute late put Post in front 2-1 with 10:28 remaining.

Senior Colby Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) extended the lead later in the quarter off an assist from junior Luke McDermott (New Milford, Conn.). Pace answered to make the score 3-2, but Treat found junior Alsharif Blackman (Easton, Pa.) for a goal in the final minute to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead after one.

The Setters scored three quick goals to start the second and jumped in front 5-4. Post won the ensuing face-off and Treat beat the keeper for his second to tie the game. Pace led 6-5 at halftime.

The game got away from Post in the third quarter as the Setter put home six straight goals to grab a 12-5 lead. Mazza stopped the run with a man-up goal late in the period but the damage was done.

Junior Paul Hylan (Clinton, Conn.) had two assists and four ground balls on the afternoon. Frank Nichols Jr. (Oceanside, Calif.) added an assists and three caused turnovers.

Junior Rob Rohan (East Islip, N.Y.) made 23 saves for Post.
