SHELTON, Conn. – The Post University men's ice hockey team was defeated by Northeast-10 opponent Southern New Hampshire 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the SportCenter of Connecticut. Freshman
Daniel Moore (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored his fourth goal of the season.
After allowing an early goal to the Penmen, Post responded with a power-play score of its own to tie the game 1-1 midway through the first period. Freshman defenseman
Nick Mancini (Coral Springs, Fla.) hit Moore on a cross-ice pass along the blue line. Moore rocketed a slap shot past SNHU goaltender Matthew MacInnis for the tally.
Play was fairly even throughout the first as Southern New Hampshire held a slim 13-12 advantage in shots. The Penmen added another goal in the period and led 2-1 after one.
Sophomore
Peter Petrino (Derby, Conn.) hit the left pipe on the shot from close range in the second period, but the Eagles were held scoreless the remainder of the afternoon.
"I thought our effort was very good today. As we continue to grow and develop as a team and a program, success will come as a by-product of us improving on our skills and execution," said head coach
Pete Whitney.
Post held a 29-28 advantage in face-offs led by sophomore
Christopher Harris (Barnstable, Mass.) with 16 victories in the circle. Goaltender
Devin Day (Fontana, Calif.) made 35 saves on the day.
The Eagles take a break until their next game on Friday, Jan. 6 at Lebanon Valley in Hershey, Pa. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
