Eagles Drop Weekend Series With Rhode Island

Moore and Canfarotta score for Post

SHELTON, Conn. – The Post University men's ice hockey team fell in both of its games against Rhode Island this weekend at the SportsCenter of Connecticut in Shelton. The Eagles were defeated 4-0 on Saturday night and 6-2 on Sunday.
 
In the first game, the Rams scored twice in the opening period. The Eagles had eight shots in the period, but were unable to get on the board. Post had a short power play opportunity in the second and got a shot off. Rhode Island held a 2-0 lead through two periods.
 
The best opportunity for Post came in the third as freshman Tyler Hackett (Branford, Conn.) hit the pipe on a breakaway. The Rams scored their final two goals early in the period. Post had 20 shots on the night led by freshman Kyle Weiss (Andover, N.J.) with four. Sophomore Joseph Grout (Plainfield, N.H.) made 33 saves.
 
Rhode Island struck first again on Sunday with three goals in the first. The Rams outshot Post 27-11 in the period. The Eagles had a power play chance after falling behind 4-0 and had six shots, including two by senior Trevor Buchas (Bristol, Conn.), but could not score.
 
Freshman Daniel Moore (Stony Point, N.Y.) put the Eagles on the board at the 8:36 mark of the second as sophomore Dom Senerchia (Walpole, Mass.) found him on a cross-ice pass. Late in the period, Post had a 5-on-3 advantage and Moore hit junior Dave Canfarotta (Stratford, Conn.) to cut the deficit to 5-2.
 
The Rams scored their final goal early in the third. Moore had five of the Eagles' 35 shots on the night. Canfarotta and Weiss each added four. Hackett won a team-high nine faceoffs.
 
Post gets some time off before its next game on Friday, Dec. 9 at home against Southern New Hampshire. Puck drops at 3 p.m.
