Post Drops Tough Road Test at Virginia Union

Eagles fall in first of two weekend games in Richmond, Virginia

RICHMOND, Va... – The Post University men's basketball team fell on the road to Virginia Union 65-52 on the first day of the VUU Holiday Inn I-64 West End Classic Saturday in Richmond, Va. The Eagles fall to 0-4 on the year while Virginia Union improves to 4-0.

Junior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) led Post with 18 points and three assists while shooting just under 50 percent from the field at 7-16. Junior Nassir Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) added eight points and five assists.

The Eagles trailed for the majority of the first half with the largest deficit being 11 points at the 13:51 mark. Head coach Marc Kuntz called a quick 30 second timeout and inserted four substitutes which sparked a run for the Eagles.

After the timeout Desrosiers got the Eagles going with a triple. Sophomore Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) scored a layup and a bucket from junior Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) cut the lead to six. With the Eagles down 22-18 with 7:25 to go in the half, Desrosiers scored 11 of the Post's last 13 points, knocking down a trio of three pointers and a jumper as Post trailed just 33-31 at the break.

Virginia Union came out on fire to start the second, posting a 15-4 run to take a 48-35 lead. Post would not go down quietly as a layup by Desrosiers off a Panthers' turnover closed the gap to just three with 8:15 left. Post would score just two points the rest of the way and Virginia Union closed the game on a 10- run to put the Eagles away.

Mareno shined in the second half for the Eagles recording a team-high eight points and five rebounds.

Virginia Union did most of its damage against Post with points off turnovers and second chance points with 41 points coming from those two categories. The Eagles bench did outscore the Panthers 26-19.

Post returns to action today in Richmond, Va. against Elizabeth City State at 2 p.m.
