WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team fell painfully short to Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Dominican 64-62 at the Drubner Center on Wednesday night. The Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the CACC. Dominican improves to 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
Junior
Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) was fouled attempting a game-tying three-pointer with 1.7 seconds left and headed to the stripe looking to tie the game. After knocking down the first free throw, he missed the next two to end the game.
Dominican held a nine point advantage with 5:39 to go in the first half until Post reeled off a 16-6 run to close the half. Desroisers had five of his eight points on the night during run as the Eagles grabbed a 36-35 lead at the half.
After the break, the Chargers pulled in front early but could not pull away. A three-point play by Daniel Grant gave Dominican its largest lead of the half at 54-48 with 11:51 remaining.
The Eagles slowly chipped away and sophomore forward
Tamas Okros (Bristol, England) drove the lane hard and picked up a layup and the foul. He made the ensuing critical free throw to pull the Eagles within one at 62-61with 1:58 left.
Each team committed a turnover down the stretch and Dominican added two late free throws to extend its lead to 64-61 with just 11 seconds left before the final sequence.
Junior
Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calf.) led the team with a double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds. Okros added 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting and four boards.
The Eagles next game will be at Virginia Union on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
