HERSHEY, Pa. – Sophomore
Alana Lopez (Wolcott, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season to give the Post University women's hockey team an early lead, but the Eagles fell at Lebanon Valley 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Just 3:24 into the contest, Lopez netted a goal off assists by freshmen
Molly Brumfield (Columbus, Ohio) and
Kalena Mueller (San Ramon, Calif.) to put the Eagles ahead 1-0. Post was able to keep the Dutchmen scoreless in the first as the Eagles outshot Lebanon Valley 16-9 in the period.
Post began the second period on a power play, but Nicole Lloyd scored a shorthanded goal off the opening faceoff to tie the game 1-1. Lloyd added another on a power play with 12 minutes left in the period to give Lebanon Valley its first lead of the game. The advantage did not last long as freshman
Kendall Fitzgerald (Kamloops, B.C.) scored her second goal in as many games just 33 ticks later to knot the score at 2-2.
Lloyd competed her hat trick with another power play goal in the final minute of the second as Lebanon Valley took the lead for good. The Dutchmen added three more in the final period, including Lloyd's fourth goal, to put the game away.
The Eagles won a season-high 37 faceoffs led by freshman
Julia Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) with 18. Post also had a season-high 32 shots, led by Fitzgerald and Brumfield with four each.
Post returns home on Friday, Nov. 17 against Franklin Pierce. Puck drops in Shelton, Conn. at 3 p.m.
