Men’s Basketball Drops Season Opener against Merrimack

Williams leads Eagles with 13 points

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Post University men's basketball team fell to Merrimack 80-61 on Friday night in its season-opener at the Bentley Tip-Off Classic in Waltham, Mass.

Three Eagles finished in double figures led by junior Nassir Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 points. Senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) added 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Sophomore Adnan Halilovich (Mali Zvornik, Serbia) scored 10 points in just 11 minutes. Junior Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) nearly added a double-double with nine points and a team-high nine boards.

The first half was tight early on and a free throw by senior Malcolm Amos (Brookville, Ill.) gave the Eagles a 15-11 lead with 12:47 left in the half. Merrimack found a rhythm with a 10-0 run capped by a Ryan Boulter layup to take a 32-22 lead. The Warriors held a 50-32 advantage at the break.

In the second half of play the Eagles were unable to draw near as the Warriors extended their lead to a game-high 27 in the early parts of the period.

A bright spot for Post in the second half was the emergence of Halilovich who scored a team-high six points off the bench.

Post returns to action on Saturday night against host Bentley at 8 p.m.
